The first global artificial intelligence (AI) safety summit was held in Bletchley Park, UK from November 1–2, 2023. The two-day summit was hosted by the U.K. government, led by British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. Attendees included:
- Representatives of the U.S. and Chinese governments
- Elon Musk
- OpenAI CEO Sam Altman
- Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar from India
- Nations including the US, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and China
The summit came after a year of increased global discussions about AI safety, following the launch of ChatGPT nearly a year ago. Sunak championed a series of landmark agreements, but a global plan for overseeing the technology remains a long way off.
